Sažetak
At the end of the last millennium, the school got a strong competition in the form of Internet, multimedia and other electronic media developed due to the new possibilities of gathering, processing, searching for and sending information. Alongside that, young and adults travel a lot, and while travelling they learn. Never in the history of mankind did people travel as much, or produce and share information, as they do today. These facts lead to numerous questions concerning school and learning. Some of them are: What is the future of school/ing? What and how to learn for the future? What would be the optimal duration of compulsory education enabling development of basic competences needed so much for life and work? Which competences are those? Is the social competence of the children and the young of today, of a better quality then of the young thirty or fifty years ago? How many of the competences necessary for the life are acquired in the school and how many of them in diverse everyday situations? Let us remind ourselves: in most of the European countries children spend more days per a year out of school than in the school! Only one ninth of the time during a year children spend in school. Many of the contents and competences that we have learned during schooling we had to forget and cast aside and replace with the new knowledge and competences. How to organize a school and the lectures which will prepare for the future? The author tries to give answer to these and many other questions in the text.
