Sažetak
Objectives: To test the psychometric properties of the newly developed chewing function questionnaire (CFQ). Methods: The 10 item CFQ was administrated to 200 patients divided into two groups: 100 removable denture wearers (RDWs) and 100 individuals with natural teeth (NT group). Discriminative validity was tested between RDWs and NT group. Convergent validity and internal consistency were tested on 200 subjects. Test-retest reliability was tested on 60 subjects. Responsiveness was tested on 24 patients who received prosthodontic treatment: new removable dentures. Results: Discriminative validity showed significant differences between the NT group and the RDWs, as predicted (p<0.001). Convergent validity was confirmed by the significant association between the CFQ score and the self-reported general question related to chewing difficulties (correlation coefficient ranged from 0.36 to 0.65 for each item and it was 0.628 for the summary score, p < 0.001). Test-retest reliability showed high intraclass correlation and no significant differences between the two administrations of the CFQ (p > 0.050). The Internal consistency showed high Cronbach alpha values (0.934). Responsiveness was confirmed by a significant difference between the baseline and the follow-up score (p < 0.001) and a high effect size (0.95). Conclusions: Psychometric properties of the CFQ are satisfactory and demonstrate that the instrument is suitable for the assessment of a self-perceived chewing function.
