Sažetak
Biotechnology has become one of the lead industries of the world that requires highly trained work force and vigorous research background. The Euro-region of Baranya across the Hungarian-Croatian border has little impact on industry and unemployment is high. In contrast, two strong and highly thought-after Universities dominate education: Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek and University of Pécs. Both Universities have the power to coordinate educational development that can lead to establishment of specialized industries, including the biotechnology industry in the region. Increasing training opportunities of biotechnology professionals can also attract more students and research staff substantially increasing the influence of Osijek and Pécs Universities in the fast growing field of science, biotechnology. It is a fantastic opportunity provided by the IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme that Osijek and Pécs can make the first efforts towards this goal together.
