Sažetak
Metal casting industries have been driven by the requirements of maintaining or improving product quality and minimization of production costs. Within this requirement the overall energy management and energy efficiency play important roles. The choice of combustion technology for furnaces in foundries is one of the key factors in minimization of energy consumption per unit of product. To meet the higher requirements it is necessary to improve existing furnace by optimising the efficiency and by reducing the pollutant production of burners and combustion chambers. Since in Croatia there are several furnaces for melting aluminium in casting lines, the possible solutions for low energy consumption as well as the effects of operating conditions on aluminium-melting furnaces are described. The emphasis is given to compare the thermal efficiency of three different combustion technologies: conventional combustion, High Temperature Air Combustion (HiTAC) and Oxy-Fuel combustion.
