Sažetak
In Croatia, leptospirosis in domestic animals is controlled in accordance with the annual order issued by the Ministry of Agriculture. All cases of abortion in cattle must be reported and blood of each animal serologically tested for leptospirosis. In 2010, 1372 blood samples were tested. All sera were tested by microscopic agglutination test (MAT) for the presence of 12 leptospiral antigens. Serovars (sv.): sv. icterohaemorrhagiae – RGA, sv. ballum – Mus 127, sv. australis – Ballico, sv. pomona – Pomona, sv. grippotyphosa – Moskow V, sv. sejroe – M84, sv. saxkoebing – M24, sv. tarassovi – Perepelicin, sv. canicola – Hond Utrecht IV, sv. bataviae – Van Tienen, sv. hardjo – Hardjoprajitno and sv. hardjo – Hardjo-bovis, were used as antigens for testing the sera An initial sera dilution 1:100 was considered as a cut-off point for a positive reaction. Positive reactions with at least one sv. were found in 90 (6.6%) samples. Highest seroprevalence was found in the counties with most significant dairy and beef production (Sisak-moslavina (13.4%) ; Virovitica-podravina (10%) ; Bjelovar-bilogora (8.4%) ; Osijek-baranja/Zagreb (8.1%, respectively) and Brod-posavina (7.1%)). Out of 212 positive reactions, most frequent serovars were sv. pomona (19.8%), sv. sejroe (16.5%), sv. saxkoebing (16.5%), sv. hardjoprajitno (16.5%) and sv. hardjobovis (16.5%). Sv. icterohaemorrhagiae (6.1%), sv. grippotyphosa (6.1%), sv. tarassovi (1%) and sv. bataviae (1%) were found at lower frequencies. Our investigation indicates leptospirosis, particulary infections with sv. pomona and serogroup sejroe (sv. sejroe, sv. saxkoebing, sv. hardjoprajitno and sv. hardjobovis) as a significant problem in cattle production in Croatia.
