Sažetak
Excavation with low overburden was always special challenge in tunneling. It is even more difficult in case of large underground opening like structure of 220 m2 in cross-section (the largest ever built in Croatia). Underground excavation was done by drill and blast. It was executed combining both underground and surface blasting techniques in three stages. Excavation step was determined by modelling and it was on safe side. The primary support was selected on the basis of numerical modelling and similar tunnelling projects. Data from geotechnical investigations works were basis for numerical modelling. Two analysis were done: a) with finite difference program FLAC and b) spatial (3D) modeling using finite element program PLAXIS 3D Tunnel to verify all excavation stages during construction. Rock massif was modeled with elastic-plastic model. Model had five excavation stages including reinforced rock with pipe-umbrella.
