Sažetak
Exposed to its environment bronze corrodes by forming protective layer of corrosion products, named patina, usually green or blue in color. Patina can be formed naturally during a long process with many phases or artificially, by an accelerated procedure. Chemical patination is commonly used for decoration and protection of bronze during restoration. Electrochemical patination is mostly applied in order to obtain patina with the similar structure and composition as natural patina. This kind of patina is used in studies concerning protection of artifacts covered by patina. Namely, although there are numerous naturally patinated bronze objects, they can not be used in electrochemical studies in order to avoid their damage. Due to the increasing environment pollution it is often seen that patina, which was stable for decades, starts to dissolve. For that reason there is a need to protect patinated bronzes, for example with corrosion inhibitors. In this paper studies on inhibiting action of nontoxic corrosion inhibitors on patinated bronze corrosion will be presented. Due to the fact that atmospheric corrosion is indeed an electrochemical process, studies are based on electrochemical techniques. Research has been conducted in solutions that simulate rainwater in various polluted atmospheres.
