Sažetak
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate survival rate and aesthetic results of transplanted premolars after 6 to 18 years of follow-up. Methodology: The analysis of transplanted teeth to the position of maxillary central incisors was performed in 16 patients aged from 9 to 14 years. Transplanted teeth were splinted with wire- composite splint for two weeks, and reshaped using composites after three months. The reshaped teeth were compared with contralateral incisors regarding morphology, colour and overall aesthetic. Follow-up ranged from 6 to 18 years (average 10.3 years). The outcome of tooth transplantation was assessed using clinical, radiographic and aesthetic criteria. The visual analog scale was used to assess patients’ satisfaction with aesthetic outcome. Results: The results showed that all teeth survived without signs of root resorption and ankylosis, but endodontic treatment was performed in 62 percent of teeth. Aesthetics after initial reshaping was scored as matched in all cases, and in 80 % after follow-up of 6 years. Conclusions: The study has shown that overall patients’ satisfaction with treatment outcome was very high (VAS = 91.0). Transplantation of premolars to the incisors position gives highly predictable functional and aesthetic results.
