Sažetak
The Mung bean, Vigna radiata L. (R. Wilczek), has its origin in Asia and Africa. It is sporadically being cultivated in the Adriatic part of Croatia and on islands. In the examination several characteristics of the mung bean cultivated in Istria were monitored, e.g. the duration of vegetation, height of the plant, number of leaves per plant, number and weight of the pods per plant, yield of the pod as well as the total yield of seeds per hectare. The investigation showed a high average germination rate between 97 and 99 %. Just before harvesting the plant height was between 51.2 and 61.3 cm, with 14-23 leaves per plant. The total duration of the vegetation was 134 days, flowering began 70 days after sowing, first pods were formed on the 5th nodes, 75 – 84 days after sowing. The number of pods per plant was between 10 and 23, with 9 -11 seeds per pod. The weight of seeds per pod was 0.75 - 0.80 g because of the typically small seed. The yield of the mung bean cultivated in Istria without irrigation was between 0.82 i 1.51 t/ha. Sowing density has significant effect on plant height, number of leaves and pods. The highest yield of the mung bean was measured in the variant 30 x 20 – 3.
