Sažetak
There is increasing interest in factors which might be connected with the fact that some individuals don’t show symptoms of traumatization after traumatic event or that they are resilient to trauma. Although there are a few measures that have been developed to measure symptoms connected to specific traumatic experience, there are not many of them available to measure general posttraumatic symptomatology in children with various traumatic experiences. The Trauma Symptom Checklist for Children (Briere, 1996) is a self-report measure of posttraumatic distress and related psychological symptomatology. The paper presents some characteristics of a clinical sample of 255 children aged 8 to 18 who have been exposed to traumatic event but did not develop posttraumatic symptoms as assessed by TSCC. The children were seen in the Center for Child Protection in Zagreb after physical or sexual abuse, witnessing domestic violence or exposure to other traumatic events. The results showed that 48% children did not show posttraumatic symptomatology. Most of the children without trauma symptoms were those who witnessed domestic violence ; children with more symptoms have been physically and sexually abused. The results will be analyzed in connection to child’s individual and family characteristics. They will be discussed in the light of models of trauma resilience in childhood.
