Sažetak
Amylase activities are most determined in serum, altough heparinized plasma is more convenient to obtain and is used for many routine biochemical analyses. To determine the usefulness of information provided by measurement of serum and venous blood amylase activity in the evaluation of dogs for pancreatitis, the relationship of amylase activity in 15 paired serum samples was investigated by statistical analysis. The purpose of this study was to compare amylase activities in serum and venous blood of dogs tested in two different machines and to determine whether either specimen type is acceptable for analysis. Material and methods: Serum and whole blood were obtained from 15 randomly selected dogs and analysed for alpha-amylase. Results were compared using Reflotron (serum and venous blood), Roche Diagnostic and Olympus analyzer (serum) with correlation analysis. Results and Discussion: Results of T-test for indepondent samples among whole blood amylase and serum amylase analysed with Reflotron method were done. There was no significant difference (p=0.05) between these two sets of results. Mean of amylase from whole blood is 757.8 and from serum 845.1. From the results presented in table 1, there is no significant difference (p=0.05) between the results obtained from serum with Olympus and Reflotron. Serum analysed by Reflotron needed to be diluted 1:3 because Reflotron is calibrated for using in human medicine but with this correction could be use in veterinary medicine too. Conclusions: It could be concluded that both method could be used equally for the measurements of tested parameter. Reflotron (dry chemistry method) is very useful in veterinary medicine as fast oriented method in diagnostic process.
