Sažetak
The aim of the study: One of the initial factor of dental caries could be the stress contentration in the tooth. The aim of the study was to analyse the mechanical behaviour of a natural tooth through 3D finite element analysis. Materials and method: Each of the two models have more than 1, 5 million elements and an average loading force of 200 N was used to simulate biting forces in the two different occlusal conditions. Results: Significantly higher tensile stress values were recorded in the fissure system in the model 2. Only in the case of malocclusion tensile stresses were found at the contact area with neigbouring teeth and in the bucco-cervical enamel. Conclusions: Tensile stress acting on the tooth brings out the disruption of chemical bonds between the enamel crystals. This chipped enamel can accelerate the development of caries when dentine is exposed to the oral cavity environment.
