Sažetak
The results will be presented of archaeological-conservation works on a small-sized but not less important medieval burg that gave its name to the entire archdeaconry. The burg is directly or indirectly mentioned in historical sources in the period between 1267 and 1497. Archaeological excavations point to an even earlier time of its erection and to an even longer continuity of its use, that is, residence on the burg. Architectural remains have been preserved only at foundation level and in the lower portions of walls of ground-floor rooms, which had been covered with thick layers of construction waste prior to the archaeological excavations. The burg has a polygonal ground-plan and consists of a palace in the north (divided into three spaces on the ground floor), a defense tower in the south, i.e. southwest, a cistern in the northwestern part of the courtyard adjacent to the tower, and a smaller eastern room of irregular ground-plan. So far only the northern part of the burg has been entirely explored, that is the palace with economic structures on the ground floor. Recent excavations indicate the existence of architecture beyond the burg core. Based on the archaeological finds from stratigraphically excavated layers, which filled the space of the northern part of the architectural complex of the burg, we can envisage the organization of the interior space, that is, the function of the rooms themselves, as well as the activities taking place in them, both on the ground level as well as on the (presently unpreserved) residential and representative first floor.
