Sažetak
Introduction: Urban air pollution is a common and serious problem in the majority of metropolises, which contain high levels of traffic congestion generating great amounts of genotoxic substances. The contribution of such environmental exposure to develop environmental diseases is well known, but the precise mechanisms for prevention and early detection of these illnesses and their risk factors are still poor understood. Benzene, owing to its contribution in almost every refinery process, represents one of the most important air pollutants that are emitted by oil industry. Furthermore, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are a big group of air pollutants, which play an important role in ecological damages, disturbing the ecosystem and human health. Inappropriate immune defense and consequently sensitization to possible allergens are the major reason to develop some type of environmental diseases Methods: The aim of this study was to investigate the function of NK cells from peripheral blood lymphocytes by cytotoxicity assay against tumor cell line (human NK-sensitive line K562). Results: All exposed individuals were demonstrated the significant diminished values of NK-mediated cytotoxicity against human NK-sensitive target in people living near industrial area in comparation with inhabitants from rural fields. Discussion: These data suggest that measuring the NK-mediated cytotoxity may contributes to better understanding the ethioimmunopathogenesis of environmental diseases, resulting the new model of monitoring of these widespres illnesses.
