Sažetak
Under the term sport different physical activities are denoted. Sport activities within the school system should enable every child and young person the satisfaction of basic human needs. The Croatian Educational Sport Association has launched a program on the national level in 2007 under the name Universal Sports School. The goal of this program is to include young pupils in sports activities, with the aim of developing the habits of everyday exercising. It is determined by the Sport Act which states that sport is based on the principle of willing participation and has to be accessible to everybody, regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, social status, political or any other kind of conviction. It was determined by that Act, the foundation of school sports communities, which were set up by the primary and secondary school committees as extracurricular activities.. The goal of the research was to conduct the sports activities in three primary schools in the Zagreb city area. Result shown 79% of pupils in grades 1 – 4 of the three schools that filled in the survey are engaged in sports activities, while 29% of them are not. The pupils are mostly engaged in sports activities in their elementary school, even though there is often a shortage of sporting equipment and gear for all of the students.
