Sažetak
The research findings of the 1991-2001 Croatian project on young learners showed that the optimal starting age for FL learning in the Croatian context is the first year of primary school. This resulted in FL being introduced as a compulsory subject from age 6-7 (first year) from 2003. A classroom in a small town in Croatia has been observed and analyzed to see how the teacher changes her activities through the years so they would adapt to the children's level of language learning.
