Serum soluble transferin receptor (sTfR); urban population of Zagreb; Age and sex-related changes
Sažetak
Age and sex-related changes for soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR) were investigated in serum of 521 randomly selected healthy persons, aged 8-78, of the urban population of Zagreb and its surroundings, Croatia. The end-point immunoturbidimetric method was used (IdeA sTfR-IT, Orion Diagnostica) on the Olympus AU-600 analyzer. The medians and obtained reference intervals were: 1.71 (1.34-2.97) mg/L in the 8-10 year old group (n=95) ; 1.54 ( 1.24-2.65) mg/L in the 11-15 year old group (n=102) ; 1.39 (0.82-2.22) mg/L in the 16-20 year old group (n=70) and 1.28 (0.82-2.22) mg/L in the 21-78 year old group (n=254). Our results have shown that concentrations of sTfR were gradually decreasing from the age of 8 to 20 years, without apparent sex-differences, reaching the adult level at the age of 16 years.
