Sažetak
The paper aims to contribute to the theoretical discussion on migration as a complex phenomenon and to development of a microeconomic model of migration by identifying and classifying migration motives as well as to develop a scale to measure them. The empirical part of the paper was based on the pilot survey among undergraduate students of Croatia conducted in 2010. The confirmatory factor analysis has confirmed that the constructed scale has a multidimensional structure and the exploratory factor analysis provided the classification of migration motives into four factors: economic situation, social network, insider advantages and wealth of opportunities. These represent the basic elements of the migration microeconomic model that should expand the knowledge base necessary to develop more comprehensive migration theory that is still missing. Reliability analyses showed that internal consistency of the scale and subscales are acceptable indicating by this that the scale could be a valid measure of emigration motives.
