Sažetak
Continuous growth of air traffic has a significant and adverse impact on environment by increasing aircraft emissions of pollutant gases and level and incidence of noise around airports. Despite this increasing negative effect on environment, it can not be ignored that aviation provides tremendous economic and social benefits for a specific region or a country. This paper provides a brief review of the recent European projects and activities that have been trying to achieve the contradictory objectives of increasing airspace capacity and reducing environmental issues by respecting operational, safety, economical and environmental constrains. Two major factors, noise and emissions of aircraft engines, are defined and analysed. Some of recommended (ICAO) and successfully implemented practises and procedures that result in noise and emission decrement are listed. The main organizations which play a crucial role in controlling and reducing the environmental impact of aviation are also mentioned (Eurocontrol, EC, ICAO, ECAC, UN, National Regulatory Authorities).
