Sažetak
This lecture outlines the advantages and disadvantages of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. It shows that the choice of methodology is determined by i) the researchers’ research interests, background and positionality ; ii) the research questions ; and iii) the goals and context of the research. Special focus is on a homelessness project that was conducted between 2009-2010 by a team of researchers from the Institute of Social Sciences Ivo Pilar and students. Ethical considerations as well as truthfulness and validity of participants’ perspectives are elaborated in this presentation. Other topics covered include the researcher / researched relationships and working with heartbreaking testimonies and difficult participants which all contribute to the intricacies of doing fieldwork with marginalised social groups.
