Sažetak
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a group of disorders characterized by persistent or recurrent gastrointestinal signs with histological evidence of intestinal inflammation in which the most common form is lymphocytic- plasmacytic enteritis. It is thought to originate as a consequence of a deregulation of mucosal immunity. The loss of tolerance to antigens is one of the most studied mechanisms that could be the cause of chronic intestinal inflammation. Diagnosis and prognosis is often based on histologic grading criteria and evaluation of acute phase proteins, serum cobalamin concentration and serum pancreatic lipase concentration. It is difficult to define the severity of clinical disease, hence several authors developed two simple and reliable scoring systems for evaluating canine IBD activity and correlate that systems to objective laboratory and histological indices of intestinal inflammation. Canine IBD activity index (CIBDAI) consists of six gastrointestinal signs - attitude, appetite, vomiting, stool consistency, stool frequency and weight loss. Canine chronic enteropathy activity index (CCECAI) consists of nine gastrointestinal signs: those from CIBDAI and albumin levels, ascites or peripheral edema and pruritus. In both scoring systems the signs are scored from 0 to 3 on the basis of the magnitude of their alteration and the results can be applied to predict outcome of the disease. All these parameters are very important for measuring initial response to treatment and to assess long-term prognosis in dogs with IBD.
