Sažetak
Quintessence Publishing Corporation published yet another interesting book with a catchy title: „Quintessence of Dental Technology 2010“. The is a hard cover book printed on quality paper and rich with illustrations. It is conceived as a sequence of case reports structured in a logical order. On the first pages, the author elaborates intertwining of art and science with clinical work in dental prosthetics. Teamwork and interdisciplinary treatment plan are paramount to the diagnosis, execution, and long-term success of these restorations. Identifying the patients needs and expectations, the implantologist, periodontist, prosthodontist, and dental technician must recognize all obstacles to attaining the ideal pink and white aesthetic results in oral cavity and should discuss the technical and biological limitations of each specialist's role. All diagnostic data must be clearly communicated to the patients. The patient is the one who will judge the success of the treatment. Therefore, aesthetic restorations must still be patient-driven, not materials-driven. The book then continues with a beautiful article on Dr. John McLean. Having honoured this deceased teacher, the book also gains an emotional level. The first article describes endosseous implant rehabilitation of edentulism using high strength ceramics and component prosthesis design. Second article: One of the greatest challenges for dental clinicians is solving aesthetic dilemmas that involve wear due to parafunction. Ceramic systems have multiplied in the last few years. Bonding to ceramics has become a system-specific procedure. The chapter: „Ceramic Systems: An Ultra structural Study“, demonstrates that the use of high- resolution scanning electron and confocal laser microscopy are a sine qua non for investigation and understanding of the bonded interface for ceramic restorations. Therefore, it is imperative to understand the ultra structure of each ceramic system to obtain a strong and durable bonding. Article „Minimally Invasive Reconstruction in Implant Therapy: The Prosthetic Gingival Restoration“ presents a reliable and consistent alternative to prosthetically restore patients with an uncertain surgical outcome or for those patients who do not want to undergo regenerative surgical procedures. Appropriate timing an material selection in an aesthetic rehabilitation is the issue of the next article. The last text in this chapter is on jacket crowns. The second chapter „State of the art“ has a few articles ; Esthetic wax up, A Step-by-step Ultraconservative Esthetic Rehabilitation Using Lithium Disilicate Ceramic, Basics of Face Photography for Esthetic Dental Treatment, Snow white and Transparence, On the Brittleness of Dental Ceramics: Why do They Fail?, Opacity, The Color Management of Porcelain Laminate Veneers Based on the Color of Abutment Teeth, Opacity Control of Zirconia Restorations, All-Ceramic Restorations: A Case of Refined Surface Characterization, Previsualization: A Useful System for Truly Informed Consent to Esthetic Treatment and an Aid in Conservative Dental Preparation and Ceramic Restorations: Updates and Concepts for Esthetic Rehabilitation. I would like to single out the article on failures during manufacturing and usage of ceramic crowns which has a great clinical significance. The book is written clearly and is well structured. It is intended for pre and postgraduate students and clinicians.
