Sažetak
In order to achieve the higher yield and product quality it is necessary to optimize the nutrition of vegetables. Mineral fertilizers are considered as a major source of plant nutrients, but excessive amounts of nitrogen fertilizers can reduce the quality of broccoli inflorescence due to the accumulation of detrimental nitrate. Application of organic fertilizers can reduce the amounts of mineral fertilizers and also improve the biological activity and organic matter content of soil. The aim of this research was to determine the effects of different organic fertilizers on the mineral content and yield of broccoli. The research was carried out at the experimental field in Zagreb during the summer-autumn growing period of 2010. The field trial was set up according to four-replication randomized complete design. Two broccoli cultivars ('Heraklion' and 'Lucky') and five organic fertilization treatments (0, pelleted organic-biological “BioUniverzal” – 100 g/m2 and chicken manure - 50, 100 and 200 g/m²) were tested. Basic mineral fertilization with 103, 140 and 210 kg•ha-1 N, P2O5 and K2O was applied. Dry weight of broccoli top inflorescence varied from 7.56 % (dose of 50 g/m² chicken manure) to 9.85 % (control plots). The highest values of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (564 mg/100 g fw, 251 mg/100 g fw and 594 mg/100 g fw) were determined in 'Heraklion' on control plots. 'Lucky' achieved the highest values on plots fertilized with 200 g/m2 of chicken manure (528 mg N/100 g fw, 175 mg P2O5 /100 g fw and 453 mg K2O /100 g fw). Mass, diameter and yield of marketable top inflorescence were not significantly affected by application of different organic fertilizers (369 g, 12, 7 cm and 12, 3 t/ha, respectively). Combined application of organic and mineral fertilizers has resulted with an increased amount of macroelements in top inflorescence of 'Lucky' with a satisfactory economic yield.
