Sažetak
Prevention and control of losses among piglets from prenatal life until weaning are challenges to the contemporary science on porcine health and breeding. Naimly, the consequences of numerous prenatal and perinatal stressors, including the causative agents, very significantly reduce a high natural reproductive potential of swine. The aim of this investigation was to test the immunostimulatory and antistress effects of the inactivated Parapoxvirus ovis virus (Baypamun®, Germany) preparation in the nonspecific immunization of the pregnant multiparous sows. We have attempted to stimulate systemic resistance during the pregnancy in order to reduce the prenatal losses. The investigation was conducted on 10 multiparous sows (cross LW X SL), aged 3 years, average body mass 250 kg, during the fifth pregnancy. They were fed with feed mixtures for the pregnant sows with 14% of crude protein and 12.5 MJ ME. Experimental group was treated with 2 ml liofilizated virus Parapoxvirus ovis (Baypamun®, Germany), 27th and 29th day after mating, 56th and 58th day after mating and 12th and 10th day before parturition. Control group of sows was treated with the 0.9% saline the same days. Blood for the biochemical parameters were collected 38th and 66th day of pregnancy in a Venoject® vacutainer. Piglets’ body mass was controlled every week until the weaning. Piglets’ blood was collected 22nd day of life. The animals were treated during this experiment in accordance to the Croatian Law on the Animal Wellfare (NN 19/99). Sows from the experimental group delivered more liveborn piglets, more piglets were weaned and the mortality rate was lower. Sows treated with Baypamun® had significantly (P<0.05) higher concentration of creatinine, albumin, iron and TIBC 38th day of pregnancy. Higher cortisol concentration had experimental sows 38th day of pregnancy, but 66th day there was not differences between groups. The piglets from the sows treated with Baypamun® had statistically (P<0.05) higher body mass as well as concentration of immunoglobulin G. Cortisol concentration was lower in the control group of piglets. Conclusion: Although the signs of antistress effect of the preparation were not observed neither in sows nor in their piglets, increased level of IgG was found in piglets from the experimental group of sows, which implies increase of the lacteal immunity in piglets’ originated from the sows treated by Baypamun® preparation.
