Sažetak
Precursor powder of monophasic mullite (3Al2O3•2SiO2) was prepared by a sol-gel process using tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) and aluminium nitrate nonahydrate (Al(NO3)3*9H2O). Prepared gel was dried and grinded, the obtained powder was calcined at different temperatures ranging from 300 - 900 °C. Structure of amorphous gel has been examined using Fourier Transformed Infra Red (FTIR) spectroscopy. Spectra showed certain differences implying alterations of gel structure with calcination temperature. Thermal evolution of crystal phases was investigated by Differential Thermal and Thermo-gravimetric Analysis (DTA/TGA). It was observed that crystallization path of mullite is influenced by calcination temperature. Phases present after thermal treatment at 1000 °C were identified by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The samples reveal significant impact of calcination temperature on final sample composition, as well mullite composition. Maximal calcination temperature induces higher sample purity and mullite composition with reduced alumina content.
