Sažetak
Alcoholism is public health problem, and such recognized in Croatia. However, for the last 50 years, in Croatia has been developed a model of Clubs for treated alcoholics which have been recognized as a good practice in supporting long term abstinence and resocialization. Incorporating experience of a therapist in two Clubs, author describes their inner structure, group processes and process of personal and family treatment. Groups have professional guidance, but members retain their active leadership’s role which emphasizes their social responsibility for each other and they feel invited to support, understand other member and share experience. Group is an environment where family system is reconstructed and in safe surrounding in a way rehabilitated. On an individual level, members are reestablishing their self-esteem, adopt new habits, share and resolve emotional issues, and reconstruct cognitive system incorporating new believes, values and attitudes towards alcohol, social responsibility and control over their own situation. Clubs are part of larger social structure and, although organization of civil society, have good collaboration with other public services as courts, hospitals and clinics, centers for social care, and prisons. Application: we believe that exchanging good practice could motivate further practice initiatives, but also review our own work system and encourage new ideas. Also, this model seems a good practice for developing skills for group social work, a bit neglected in social work, and idea of active user’s participation in helping himself and other in similar context.
