Sažetak
On analogy with hydrogen bonding (HB), the halogen bonding (XB) describes a non-covalent directional interaction wherein halogen atom functions as the acceptor of electron density. The directionality of the interaction originates in highly anisotropic electron density around the halogen nucleus known as 'polar flattening', which has its minimum along extended Y—X bond axis and its maximum perpendicular to that bond. Alongside with HBs and π–π interactions, XBs are recognized as interactions that play crucial role in the development of supramolecular structures. In this contribution, we report two copper(II) complexes with pyridine ligands that are decorated with halogens in ortho-positions.
