Sažetak
This paper gives a critical overview of Croatian possibilities, perspectives and obstacles in the field of book and paper conservation and restoration with an emphasis on the interaction between scientific research in this field, everyday conservator-restorer practice and everyday practice in heritage institutions, especially libraries and archives. The paper examines the relationship between these activities and underlines the importance of their interaction. The aim and purpose of this study is to analyze and evaluate the overall context in which restoration and conservation of books and paper is conducted and to identify prerequisites for their more intensive development and improvement in Croatia. As such this paper represents a starting point for a possibly better organisation, implementation and interaction of scientific research and practice of heritage institutions in Croatia.
