Sažetak
Lisbon Treaty introduced new function: High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy that merged previous functions of the High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and European Commissioner for External Relations. This post is since December 2009 held by Mrs. Catherine Ashton that is at the same time Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for external relations and that chairs Foreign Affairs Council. Creation of the High Representative post aims to secure efficient, coherent and credible EU foreign policy at the global level and essential role to achieve this is accompanied to the European External Action Service (EEAS) with the main task to help and assist High Representative in its work. Consequently, EEAS will actually serve as the foreign ministry and diplomatic corps of the EU that is highly relevant for Croatia as the future EU member state, as it opens possibility for Croatian diplomats to fully participate in this new era of the EU diplomacy.
