Sažetak
Research was conducted over a 25-month period on a total sample of 2548 cows (2218 cows and 330 heifers): 1548 Simmental breed (60.75%), 636 Holstein Friesian breed (24.96%) and 354 cross breeds (14.29%). The average age was 5.4 years (15 months to 9 years). Animals were divided into four randomly created groups: A, B, C and D, each with 637 animals, including 82 heifers, with the exception of group D which had 84 heifers, and 387 Simmental breed, 159 Holstein Friesian and 91 cross breed cows. The objective of the study was to confirm the prevalence and success of different hormone therapies. Following confirmation of the COD diagnosis, group A received an SC solution of minerals and vitamins A, D and E. Group B received im. 0.1 mg GnRH, and 7 days later im. 0.05 mg PGF2α. Group C received 0.05 mg PGF2α im. 3 times in 11-day intervals. Group D simultaneously received 0.1 mg GnRH and 0.05 mg PGF2α twice in 12-day intervals. After 30 days, the animals were examined with ultrasound to confirm success of the therapy. COD was diagnosed in 6.99% of the cows (P<0.01) and was 1.5 times more frequent in cross breeds than in the Holstein Friesian breed, but 2.75 times more frequent than in the Simmental breed (P<0.01). COD was 1.8 times more frequent in the Holstein Friesian breed than in the Simmental breed. The prevalence of COD increases with age and is most common in cows after the 4th year, slightly rare in cows 3–4 years old (P<0.01), and rarest in primipare and heifers. Success of the treatment was 12.3% in group A group (P = 0.8) ; 70% in group B ; 56% in group C and 80% in group D (P<0.01). The highest success of treatment was achieved in group D with simultaneous application of PGF2α and GnRH in 12-day intervals.
