Lung cancer is world's leading cause of death. Since the lung parenchima is very low on nerve fibers, the symptoms often start in the advanced stage. Intermediate filaments are the diverse group of proteins that build up the eukaryotic cytoskeleton. Cytokeratin 19 is a acidic (type I) intermediate filament expressed in the startified and pseudostratified epithelia of the bronchial tree.
