Hydrocephalus Shunting Complications of treatment Sinus shunts
Sažetak
Untreated hydrocephalus is condition with significant mortality rate or great psychophysical disabilities. Modern neurosurgical techniques, now days present for about 50 years managed to alter for the better course of events with mortality rate near to 0 and most of the patients with hydrocephalus live normal life. However, they have higher rates of shunt-related complications. This pulls a question of needs for newer treatment resources in basic, technological and clinic trials. The aims are higher quality of life, reliable and invisible implants, no need for revisions, lesser intristic complication. Shunting into dural vein sinuses is more physiologic and closest to natural CSF dynamic. Mechanical dysfunctions related to VP shunts as postural overdrainage and siphonage could be overruled with sinus shunts. Although method is not yet widely used positive experiences and outcomes of the authors are approval of sinus shunting as valuable alternative to present treatment resources.
