Sažetak
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) together with the Ministry of Economy, Labour and Entrepreneurship (MINGORP) of Croatia has started the project Stimulation of Energy Efficiency in Croatia. The project aims at advancing the sense of efficient energy consumption and at stimulating the implementation of economically profitable and energy efficiency (EE) technologies, materials, and services in Croatia. Among others, the sector of service activities, i.e. hotel companies, are also taking part in the pursued project group. The authors are therefore on the example of the Milenij Hotel in Opatija analyzing thermal characteristics and the hotel energy system aiming at establishing the energy consumption efficiency and/or non-efficiency. Both consumption and reciprocal energy share are analyzed, together with the water consumption index in relation to the number of overnight stays, with a number of conclusions and suggestions carried out for energetic efficiency increase. As the evaluation result, possible measures in improvement of the Milenij Hotel in Opatija EE are suggested: in some cases economizing measures with considerable consumption reduction can be realized, with reduction of energy consumption and financial savings, and therefore achieving larger profits. As demonstrated by researches, the hotel manager or the owner is motivated for energy and water expenses reduction as long as they become reflected in the level of extended services and in final satisfaction of hotel guests. Because of the even greater care for environment and sustainable development, EE hotels form today no exception any more, but must become a standard rule.
