Sažetak
In this paper we propose the usage of optical multi-touch systems in a process of familiarizing information and communication technologies (ICT) to seniors. We briefly describe a development process of multi-touch surfaces (wall displays, tables etc.) supported with the examples of few prototypes we have built in our home-made laboratory. According to some recent research, every 5th citizen of Croatia (population of 4, 489, 409 people, by Eurostat estimate for 2009) is at least 65 years old, which makes Croats one of the fast growing aging populations in Europe. Also, some American researchers predict that, by the year 2050, over 30% of population of Croatia will have at least 65 years of age. These data inspire and oblige us to introduce some practical suggestions and technological know-how for building multi-touch solutions for seniors. Examples of some ICT applications with multi-touch user interfaces, that could make the living of seniors more convenient, are: e-health services (health insurance management, drug e-prescriptions control, etc.), local e-government administration (e-taxes, land-owner certificates, etc.), entertainment services (e-ticketing, e-couponing, etc.). Some such examples are briefly elaborated.
