Sažetak
Chemical composition of rainwater samples collected at two sampling sites within the city of Rijeka are compared. Site 1 is situated in the city center, while Site 2 is located in a suburban field, 120 m above sea level. Precipitation weighted average concentrations of hydrogen, sulphate, nitrate, chloride, ammonium, sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium were determined in the rainwater samples. Comparing the obtained results several conclusion can be drown: i) Enhanced rainwater acidity in the city center is due to the local washout of the atmosphere. Furthermore, significant marine contributions were observed for sulphate, calcium, magnesium and potassium contents ; ii) Rainwater from the suburban site is affected by soil dust and/or fertilizers used in the nearby gardens resulting in partial neutralization, i.e. rising pH ; iii) While the amount of S-SO4 are practically equal at both sites, the quantities of N-NO3 and N-NH4 are almost doubled at the suburban site.
