According to the basic ideas and guidelines of the Bologna process and conforming to a number of subsequently adopted declarations and other documents, the curricula offered at the institutions of higher education today require explicit definition of the study outcomes including key competences acquired by the students after having successfully completed the planned program. The paper intends to show and compare the extent to which, and the elements in which these objectives have been determined and present in the educational process before and after the reform at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb. Explanation will be given regarding the level up to which the Bologna Process has been introduced, i.e. in which way it has been implemented at our Faculty regarding the existing resources, namely, the teaching staff, premises, facilities, equipment and students. Attempt will be made to explain the wider technical and social aspects of accepting the novelties related to the Bologna Process from the aspect of the teaching staff, from the aspect of students and regarding our environment. Among the first results of the reform the emphasis and special comments should be on the effects of the new study regime, that is, the implementation of particular provisions of the new University Statute. Based on what has been achieved until now, the targets and the vision have been set regarding the direction in which the study curricula of mechanical engineering, naval architecture and aeronautical engineering need to be further developed, that is, which segments of educating the engineers at our Faculty is going to be improved.
