Sažetak
Welding of wood is a process where chemical and physical reactions take place, heat is formed during the friction which melts and softens the structure of wood, and a firm joint is formed by cooling of the melt. This paper displays present knowledge about wood welding and results of wood welding research obtained in the Faculty of Forestry, University of Zagreb. The results were obtained on samples (solid beech wood) with tapered entrance holes 9 mm in diameter and the bottom of the hole diameter 7 mm and lengths of dowels 20 mm and 30 mm, and samples with hole diameter 8 mm and lengths of dowels 20 mm and 30 mm. Tensile strength of welded joint was analyzed. The analysis results show that there is a big difference in tensile strength between the samples with 20 and 30 mm length dowel and profile hole. 30 mm length dowel gives better results than the 20 mm length dowel.
