Sažetak
Two groups of patients, with an average age of 15 years, have been studied to establish the improvement in pulmonary function after surgical correction in relation to amount of correction achieved. The first group of 60 patients were treated surgicall ; an average scoliotic angle of 71, 6° (45-145°, after Cobb) was reduced to 32, 6°. The second group of 30 patients with average Cobb angle of 34 were not operated on. Lung function in both groups of patients were tested preoperatively by spirometry. Arterial blood gas anylysis were tested before and after operation, first postoperative day (1PD). The site and apex of the thoracic curve determined by spine X-ray. Only upper thoracic scoliosis with the apex between T%-T8, and with Cobb angle of more than 70 correlated (r = -1) with restrictive ventilation disorder (P>0, 05). The improvement in PaO2 (P>0, 05) are result of surgically correction of the scoliotic curve (52%).
