Sažetak
At the beginning of 2007, Counsel for patients with neurological disease started working at Zagreb University Hospital Centre. A team of experts and medical staff try to help patients in accepting their disease and make their reintegration into their living and working environment as successful as possible. We also want to help hospitalized patients to deal with their stress and anxiety that follow their diagnosis as well as their leaving the hospital to go to rehabilitation institution. Each month the Counsel takes subjects related to different subject regarding to diffrent neurological problems (e.g. epilepsy, stroke, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, movement disorders, etc). Liaison psychiatrist works in the Counsel as an important part of the team. His role in the Counsel is very challenging. One of the challenges is the complex task of determining the relationship between comorbid neurological and psychiatric symptoms. Working closely with the neurologist on brain disorders can be very rewarding, and new developments in neuroscience contribute to better understanding of the possible mechanisms by which biological, psychological and social factors interact to cause both neurological and psychiatric illness. The treatment of patients with neurological disorders is complex and requires a multidisciplinary approach. One of the main goals of this counseling is to prove the fact that multidisciplinary approach in treating patients with neurological diseases is essential and it should be affirmed in Croatia.
