Sažetak
The aim of this study was evaluation of random amplified polymorphic (RAPD) assay for genotoxine-induced DNA damage and mutations in mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis tissues. The mussels exposed to chemical xenobiotics and natural mussel populations from urban and industrial areas of Croatian Adriatic Sea coast showed changes in RAPD profiles, including variation in band intensity as well as gain loss of bands. The work presented herein contribute to the better understanding of the advantages and limitations of RAPD assay as a potential link between DNA alterations and other measurable effects of genotoxic agents at higher level of biological organization. Obtained results confirmed the usefulness of RAPD assay and selected random 10mer primers in Mytilus population, allowing their application in ecotoxicological studies of genotoxic effects in littoral marine environment.
