Sažetak
The aim of this investigation was to study the protective qualities of phenol-formaldehyde based andcoumarone-indene resin based coatings on low alloy steel in marine atmospheric environments using potential noise measurements. Changes in potential noise on naturally corroding and coated metal electrodes were observed using a two-electrode system with a specially noise designed multilamellar electrochemical cell sensor under simulated conditions ofmarine atmospheric environments. The results obtained by potential noise technique were compared with the potentiodynamic polarization measurements as well as with microscopic photographic evidence ofthe specimens investigated. The potential noise technique has the advantage over other methods of indicating the very onset of pitting corrosion. All the methods used confirm that phenol-formaldehyde based coatings offer good protective characteristics for mild steel in marine atmospheric environments.
