Sažetak
The purpose of study was to investigate whether the radiofrequency radiation (Rf) derived from mobile phone equipment influence rats’ sperm quantity and/or quality. Wistar rats (350g, 12 week old) were divided into the experimental (n=9) and shame exposed group (n=9). Experimental group was exposed to the 915 MHz radiofrequency field, power density of 2.4 W/m2 for 1 h/day, 7 days/week, during two weeks. The radiation set-up consisted Gigahertz Transversal Electromagnetic cell (GTEM-cell), generator Anritsu 27211B, amplifier RF 3146 and modulator RF 2722. Whole body average specific absorption rate (SAR) was calculated at 0.6 W/kg. The same experimental procedure was applied on the sham-exposed controls but the Rf generator was switch off. The body temperature was measured by ThermoScan thermometer before and after exposure treatment. To obtain spermatocytes the rats were euthanized, epididymis was excised and homogenized on the last experimental day. The sperm count and motility was determined by means of cytometer under the light microscopy (400x magn.). Sperm morphology was analyzed microscopically by viewing hematoxylin-eosin stained slides. In comparison with sham-exposed controls, in the group of animals exposed to 915 MHz radiation no significant differences was found in body temperature, epididymal sperm count, motility and sperm morphology.
