Sažetak
Recent studies have shown that at smaller dimensions, materials can be controlled at a greater extent. Research on application of nanocomposite materials (also called nanomaterials) in packaging is exponentially increasing. The use of nanocomposite materials improves the mechanical and oxidation stability and also the barrier properties. Barrier properties play a vital role in packaging by gaining access into the food products by light, moisture or gases. Other benefit of the use of nanomaterials is that they inhibit the growth of spoilage, thus increasing the shelf life and quality. In this study low density polyethylene (PE-LD) containing zeolite (T-MAZ 7) and nano- clays (Cloisite 15A) were analysed for theirs barrier characteristics. For that purpose oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen permeance were performed using a Brugger (GDP-C model) were tested at 23°C. The permeability, the diffusion and the solubility constants of the gas in modified PE-LD films were also calculated. Gas separation (CO2/O2 ; CO2/N2) ability was also determined.
