Sažetak
In order to monitor the epidemiological situation of Salmonella enteritidis in Croatia and possible connection of the infection in human and poultry, in total 197 strains of the bacteria were phage typed. Out of this number 98 where isolated from human, 34 from human food of chicken origin and 65 from different chicken organs. Altogether, 190 strains (96.4%) of all sources were typeable, belonging to 11 different phage types. The finding suggests a connection between foods, as the source of infection in human. By the phage typing of 197 salmonellas isolated during epidemics and epizootics in the period 1993.1997 in Croatia, phage types 8, 9a and 2 strains were isolated most frequently. Because of mainly subjective approaches, the necessity of salmonella phage typing and closer detecting of its other epidemiological markers, in Croatia is not yet clearly expressed.
