Sažetak
This study the incidence of major nonmelanoma malignant skin tumours in Croatia(NMSCs), other nonmelanoma malignant skin cancers (other NMSCs)and malignant melanoma (MM) in Croatia.Skin cancers recorded between 1 January 2003 and 31 December were retrospectively analyzed. Incident cases of nonmelanoma malignant skin tumours were extracted from the University Department of Dermatology and Venereology Clinical Hospital Center and School of Medicine, Zagreb. Incident cases of melanoma, nonmelanoma malignant skin tumours and other cancers were extracted from the National Cancer Registry of the Croatian National Institute of Public Health. We recorded a total of 11.025 malignant skin tumour cases, 5370 in males and 5655 in females over the 3-year period. The average yearly incidence rate was 83.80/100.000 for males and 81.9/100.000 for females. Basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma are the most common skin tumours in both genders. There were 11.025 malignant skin tumours presenting with the total of 7244 basal cell carcinoma cases (65.53 % in males and 65.87 % in females), 1860 of squamous cell carcinoma cases (17.39 % in males and 16.37 % in females) and 1427 malignant melanoma (12.76 % in males and 13.12 % in females). Average yearly age-specific incidence rate of basal cell carcinoma showed the peak incidence between 80-84 years of age for males and above 85 for females, as well as of squamous cell carcinoma between 65-69 for males and between 80-84 for females. The peak incidence of malignant melanoma was between the ages 80-84 in both genders. Malignant skin tumours were the second most common cancer in both genders. Thios results will serve ass reference for studying the patterns of descriptive epidemiology of major NMSCs, other NMSCs and MM in Crotia and Europe in the forthcoming years.
