Sažetak
The ever increasing competition within the airline industry resulting from deregulation and liberalization has placed airports in a more competitive environment. Consequently, airports are compelled to improve their efficiency in order to obtain advantages over their competitors. In this paper, the non-parametric, linear programming based method of Data Envelopment Analysis in an input-oriented CCR model has been utilised to assess the overall efficiency of seven Croatian airports in the year 2008 and between 2004 and 2008. The efficiency scores of the airports analysed show that in 2008 only Dubrovnik Airport was a relative efficient performer in comparison to the other airports. In order to avoid the use of only single year to calculate airports` efficiency and to obtain more detailed data, the extended DEA method - window analysis - is adopted. The analysis reveals that the average efficiency scores of almost all Croatian airports have increased over the five-year period 2004- 2008. When applying window DEA method it can be observed that almost all airports have the best average efficiency scores during the period 2006- 2007-2008. These efficiency scores could be mostly linked to the positive impacts of the market entry of low-cost carriers serving Croatian airports, although it must be outlined that this argument need not be the only explanation of the results.
