Sažetak
In this paper, application of the heterogeneous photocatalysis as an advanced oxidation process (AOP) for the degradation of the diazo reactive dye was investigated using the immobilized TiO2 as a photocatalyst. TiO2 films were directly deposited on borosilicate glass substrate using two techniques: (a) sol-gel process and (b) dip coating. TiO2 solution was prepared with and without addition of polyethylene glycol (PEG). The surface morphology and the nanoscale roughness of TiO2 films were studied using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The structural properties of TiO2 were characterized by the X-ray diffraction (XRD) method. The decomposition behavior of the organic compounds from the gels was investigated using the thermal gravimetry (TG) and differential scaning calorimetry (DSC) methods. Photocatalytic activities of the TiO2 films for the degradation of the commercial diazo textile dye Congo Red (CR), as a model pollutant, were followed by means of UV/VIS spectrophotometry. The kinetics of the degradation of the CR dye was described by the Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) kinetic model. Addition of PEG to TiO2 influenced the changing of the film surface morphology, ratio of anatase-rutile (crystal structure) and the photocatalytic activity. TiO2 film prepared with PEG is characterized by higher roughness parameters (Ra, Rmax, Rq, Rz and Zmax), lower amount of rutile phase of TiO2, higher amount of anatase phase of TiO2 and better photocatalytic activity than TiO2 film without addition of the PEG.
