Sažetak
Progress in the method of simulated moving bed (SMB) technology and some important achieve ments in separation of specific classes of racemic compounds of therapeutic interest are reported in the Part I of this review. Part II describes novelmethods of SMB technology. Complex technologies, such as the combination of SMB and biocatalytic reactions, and SMB with crystallization process, are presented. VariCol variant of SMB, and its application in the separation of the racemic mixtures of commercial and academic interest are discussed. In the conclusive section, comments are given concerning the economic dimension and the market of enantiomerically pure compounds.
