Sažetak
Massive colonies of bryozoan Pentapora fascialis were sampled from depths of 20 and 22 meters in Grmac cove in Velebit Channel, Adriatic Sea. There, the colonies grew only in the vicinity of submarine freshwater springs (vruljas) on sandy-detritic bottom. Fauna associated with the colonies have been explored. Altogether, nine higher taxonomic levels have been determined, with total of 109 species. The most numerous taxon was Mollusca, with 52 determined species. Furthermore, 15 species of Bryozoa, 14 species of Foraminifera, 10 species of Polychaeta, 10 species of Arthropoda, three species of Cnidaria, two species of Porifera, two species of Echinodermata and one species of Pisces have been determined. In the comparison with data from other authors, it has been established that bryozoan colonies of P. fascialis in the Velebit Channel are indeed hot spots of biodiversity and because of that the species itself, together with the unique habitats were they grew, need to be protected and conserved.
