Sažetak
Cultural tourism has been developing as one of the most dominant selective forms of tourism. The increase of free time, of the educational level and of the standard of living have all contributed to the growth of touristic travels, and at the same time to an increased number of visits to cultural attractions. Each tourist, according to his own preferences, is interested in some sort of the manifold cultural attractions. Cultural attractions should be able to offer the unique and authentic cultural and historical resources of a destination. Each Croatian destination has its own cultural specificities which have to be recognized and evaluated as such and also protected if necessary, so that they could be included in the tourist offer as best as possible. Cultural attractions are a very good supplement to the basic offer of a destination. They provide the possibility to prolong the touristic season i.e. to shorten the seasonal character, to offer a geographic area which has so far not been a part of the offer, and they are unaffected by climatic changes and hence available during the whole year. A strengthening of the destination’s cultural identity in a global and competitive environment can be achieved through the development and strengthening of cultural products, through marketing processing and through a tighter cooperation between cultural institutions and tourist agencies and hotels. In the designing of cultural tourism it is necessary to move away from the statics and uniformity which is mostly offered, and to initiate creativity through a dynamic offer. When designing a new cultural product, but also when promoting it, the destination has to show creativity and dynamics.
